The category had potential the previous owner was willing to squander. One of the three founders had seen it from the inside as a trade partner. Another had spent years as the technical backbone at a carbon-rim factory. The third had spent the previous decade learning how Western wheel brands actually buy.
They began working together in 2014. They formalized the company as Xiamen Deer Cycles Industry & Trade Co., Ltd in 2016. They built their own factory in 2017. The three are still the three.
