Carbon rim testing and validation support is how DeerCycles helps OEM and ODM brands confirm a rim or wheel program before production. Validation is defined per project and matched to riding category, tire system, pressure range, spoke count, and target market — not sold as a one-size certificate. This page summarizes the QC system, the checks that may apply, the records you can request, and the documentation support DeerCycles can provide for a brand's own UCI application. How we validate

How DeerCycles validates OEM rim and wheel programs.

Validation is defined per project — matched to riding category, tire system, pressure range, spoke count, target rider and system weight, and destination market. The scope is agreed during sample approval, supported by a three-level QC system: Product Testing, In-Process Self-Checking, and QC Inspection. In-process checks include post-molding surface review and drilling-quality review; QC inspection covers rim weight, roundness, flatness, hole count and diameter, surface, decal, tubeless setup, and packing before release. Rim weight is recorded per unit and held within ±15g of the program target; any unit over target is flagged to the customer before shipment.

The framework below shows the checks DeerCycles can apply. Not every check applies to every project, and sample condition and acceptance criteria are confirmed by project.

Group 1 — Rim-Level Geometry & Dimensional QC

Geometry consistency is the first thing a buyer's wheel builder notices.

01 · Rim Trueness / Runout / Roundness / Flatness Review

Rims must build into true wheels without fighting the rim. During dimensional QC — before sample approval and on repeat production — trueness, runout, roundness, and flatness are reviewed with digital indicators against the sample plan; roundness and flatness are held under 0.2mm on a 100% fixture check. Dimensional QC records per batch are available to approved OEM partners.

02 · Dimensional Inspection

Confirms ERD, inner and outer width, depth, drilling positions, and hole diameter against the approved drawing; ERD is held within ±0.2mm. Used at sample stage and per batch; scope agreed during sample approval. Batch dimensional records on request.

03 · Rim Plastic Deformation Check

Reviews whether the rim shows permanent deformation after load or inflation checks, according to the approved project method. Results are recorded per sample plan — a project-specific check, not a blanket guarantee.

Group 2 — Tire Fit & Inflation Validation

Tubeless and high-pressure fit problems should be found in the factory, not in the field.

04 · High-Pressure Inflation / Tire-Fit Check

Confirms bead seating, tire security, pressure holding, and visible deformation for clincher and tubeless programs; raw-rim checks can include a 150 psi factory check. This is a QC validation check, not a riding-pressure recommendation. Final pressure, tire type, and acceptance criteria are confirmed according to the approved project method.

05 · Rim Outer-Width Measurement After Inflation

Compares rim outer width before and after factory inflation to review visible deformation and overall rim integrity; inflation-related deformation has been confirmed stable under 0.3mm. Measured per the approved project method; records on request.

06 · Heat Exposure / Greenhouse Check

Reviews rim and tire-system behavior after elevated-temperature exposure, where the project's market or use case requires it. Scope agreed during sample approval.

Group 3 — Rim-Level Structural Validation

Rim-level structural checks, defined per program — not sold as a one-size certificate.

07 · Rim Lateral Stiffness Validation

Rim-level review of structural response under lateral load, according to the approved project method. Sample condition and acceptance criteria are confirmed by project.

09 · Spoke-Hole / Spoke-Bed Tensile Strength Validation

Validation can be performed up to 350 kgf according to the approved project method. Two spoke-bed constructions are offered — CNC-drilled (standard) and molded-in spoke holes that keep the fiber continuous through the bed — with the construction type confirmed during sample approval. Sample method, force level, and acceptance criteria are confirmed by project.

10 · Impact / Load Validation

Impact or concentrated-load review for programs whose riding category requires it — MTB, gravel, or race programs. Method and energy level are confirmed by project; records can be prepared for approved OEM programs.

Group 4 — Complete Wheelset Validation

Some questions can only be answered on a built wheel.

11 · Trial Wheel-Build Validation

A trial build confirms spoke tension behavior, nipple seat fit, and trueness stability before a program commits to volume. Used at sample approval for new wheelset programs; records on request.

12 · Complete Wheel Fatigue Validation

Complete wheel fatigue validation can be performed up to 800,000 cycles for newly developed complete wheelset programs, according to the approved project method. The commonly referenced ISO fatigue baseline is 750,000 cycles.

13 · Complete Wheel System Review

Reviews the wheelset as a system: rim, spokes, nipples, hub interface, and tension balance against the approved specification. Scope agreed during sample approval.

Group 5 — Material & Production QC

Validation means little without material and process control behind it.

14 · Incoming Prepreg / Material Batch Review

Incoming carbon prepreg is cold-stored and reviewed per batch against storage and handling requirements; resin content is verified by DSC (differential scanning calorimetry) before release to layup. Records on request.

15 · Resin Content / Layup Process Review

In-process review of layup execution against the approved layup plan for the program's weight tier. Records on request.

16 · Drilling / Spoke-Bed / Nipple Seat Review

Post-drilling review of spoke-hole quality, spoke-bed thickness, and nipple seat condition; CNC drilling uses diamond-tipped bits replaced every 30–40 rims to hold hole quality, and drilling-quality review runs on a recurring in-process schedule. Records on request.

17 · Final Cosmetic and Finish Review

Surface, decal, and finish sign-off per outgoing shipment, including paint-factory surface sign-off and senior-management pre-shipment review.

  • 18 · QC record support — batch QC records covering dimensional inspection, drilling accuracy, roundness/flatness, spoke-bed review, the inflation check, finish/decal/laser sign-off, and final inspection before release.
  • 19 · Testing photos / videos on request — testing photos and videos can be provided during sample approval, or for a brand's UCI application preparation where required.
  • 20 · UCI application documentation support — for race-focused OEM rim or wheel programs, DeerCycles can support the UCI approval preparation stage. We can provide product specifications, rim drawings, QC records, and testing photos or videos where required, so the brand can submit the correct documentation for its own UCI application. The application remains under the customer's brand, and final approval depends on UCI review and the submitted product program.
  • 21 · EN/ISO-related testing requirement review — when a market, distributor, or race program requires a specific EN or ISO-related test, DeerCycles can review the requirement during sample approval. This is requirement review, not “ISO certified” or “ISO passed” status.
  • 22 · Sample-to-production validation path — validation scope is set at sample approval, then the same specification and QC checks carry into repeat batch production.
